  • UNCOATED PAPER IS EASIER TO RECYCLE

All of the text pages we print are on uncoated stocks. Uncoated paper is much easier to recycle than coated paper and yields more recycled pulp. Because of the clay mixtures used to create coated paper, more water and energy must be used to de-ink and process coated stock into recycled pulp. The answer is to use uncoated paper in the first place.

  • NO OVENS OR AFTERBURNERS

The open web presses that we use at Delta Web do not have the high energy consumption profile of heat-set presses. Since there are no ovens or UV lamps used to cure the inks, our presses consume a third less energy than heat-set presses. If you look above most heat-set presses, you will notice a venting system that feeds an afterburner on the roof. Delta Web uses air-cured inks that don’t require ovens, but meet all of California’s air quality demands.

  • RECYCLED INKS

We purchase our inks from a manufacturer that recycles waste ink from other printing companies. Our manufacturer repurposes disposed inks, which reduces waste to landfills or incineration. Our inks are also soy-based.

  • MORE RECYCLED PAPER CONTENT AND OPTIONS

Uncoated paper allows for the use of more recycled pulp. Coated papers may indicate 10-20% PCW (post-consumer waste) but the actual recycled content is much lower. The PCW percentage in coated paper is only the percentage of paper pulp and does not account for the third of the paper that is clay and chemical coating. Uncoated recycled paper has more recycled content than coated sheets that are labeled “recycled.”
